Leaving Certificate Applied Programme

The Leaving Certificate Applied is a distinct, self-contained two-year programme aimed at preparing students for adult and working life. The programme puts an emphasis on forms of achievement and excellence, which the established Leaving Certificate has not recognised in the past.

The two-year programme consists of four half-year blocks called Sessions. Students’ achievements are credited in each of these Sessions which form part of their final result. Each course consists of a number of modules. A module generally represents a half-year’s work.

Students carry out a number of tasks or projects over the two year period which they also gain credits for.

Work Experience is an important part of the Leaving Certificate Applied Programme and is carried out for two blocks each of two weeks duration in both years of the programme.
